Powering Education in Ghana

Power and Internet Bring Rural Community into the Modern Age

In partnership with: Goal Zero and NRG

In 2015, Tifie and Goal Zero placed technology within reach of Kushea’s rural school children by building a technology resource center, powered by 500KW of solar that provides internet, light and power.  The ICT Center serves six local schools, providing access to technology that opens up the outside world. The center has become a hub for community activities, day or night, now that there is consistent power and light. This facility is supported by King Nana Pra, who is devoted to promoting educational opportunities in his kingdom. In additional to the ITC Center, Tifie has donated solar power to all community buildings, including the hospital, police station, and public schools. In 2016, 200 families and small businesses received a solar powered generator, providing consistent electricity and light. Solar flashlights were distributed to villagers who were walking to their jobs in the dark. They reported that they can work longer hours with the light, are protected from animal attacks while they walk, and their children are able to read and do homework in the evenings because of the flashlights. Safety, Income, Opportunity - the impact of light and power for individuals, family and community in Kushea is continual.
In 2018/2019, the students receive the highest marks in Computer Communication, thanks to the ICT Center.
The Hospital Administrator sets up Goal Zero Yeti 1250 Solar Generator to power their fridges and medical machines to keep essential medicines and vaccines.
Goal Zero team installs 500KW of power for the ICT Center.

Record Setting Marks

We are pleased to congratulate Prince Antwi for his excellent achievements at the Kushea. His high marks in his exams set a new record for the school in its 65 years of operations. He was awarded as the Best Boy in the Assin North district, and was accompanied by his mother, schoolmates and the Parent/Teacher Association Chairman. Prince was accepted to Adesadel College in Cape Coast in General Science – Congrats Prince!

 

Douglas Otoo, Headmaster of Kushea Schools, shared the news with us and their pride in Prince and in the academic success of Kushea. This year in Kushea the students have all passed their exams with High marks. Mr. Otoo thanks Tifie Humanitarian for their support at the ICT Center and to Nana Prah, the Paramount Chief, for providing and valuing education in their community.

SHARED FOUNDER, SHARED PASSION

  Tifie Humanitarian and Goal Zero have partnered together in projects around the world. Goal Zero was born from Robert's passion to help people provide for themselves. Personal, reliable and easy-to-use solar power was the product solution, and Goal Zero was the company that quickly came next. From product development to company give-back, Goal Zero and Tifie work together, but the project and impact in Ghana is the longest-lasting and most impactful. Kushea Trip Review 2017

In 2017, Tifie, Goal Zero and NRG built upon the foundation of past years donations, replacing batteries for Kushea schools and training the solar trainers in the village. Our install team brought solar panels, batteries and lights to a school in a remote village outside of Kushea that has no power – only kerosene lamps and candles. We also were part of the dedication of the Ange Workman Maternity Clinic, a new maternity health clinic that will serve the community.

Kushea Trip Review 2018

300 families and businesses received Goal Zero solar generators and lights. All local schools and clinics batteries were updated.  Local solar installers were trained on battery replacement and upkeep.
