Drilling wells throughout the world

TIFIE x WHO LIVES

Tifie chooses project partners who are local, experts and long-term. We’ve partnered with Who Lives for over 8 years to distribute their Village Drill, creating over 100 wells in the process.  Who Lives works with each community to create community-led ownership and sustainable practices so the drill and the wells can have long lasting impact. If you’ve followed Tifie for long, you know that we avoid “love ’em and leave ’em” projects, and choosing sustainable project partners is a top priority for us. John Renoud, the Village Drill founder, engineered the drill with the School of Engineering at Brigham Young University.

Clean Water in Kinshasa

For years, we’ve dreamt about having our very own Village Drill in Kinshasa, but the logistics of getting it there were overwhelming. It took almost a year, but the drill finally arrived and our team received training by Village Drill team. They spent several weeks together, learning about the equipment, how to drill successfully and sanitization techniques to ensure the water stays clean and has the greatest impact possible.

When a Village Drill is sent into a community, there is a network in place for training, funding and maintenance. This ensures that the drill stays in great working condition for years, and that the community is committed to supporting its success. DRCEO is excited to develop this business and bring clean water to schools and communities throughout the area.

Using the Village Drill
Workers learn how to use the Village Drill during training, drilling up to 47 meters.
Kids gathered around clean water.
Kids in the neighborhood gathered to collect clean water for their families.
Community surrounds clean water.
The line outside of the well grows longer as the clean water continues to pour out.

GO CONSCIOUS EARTH

Go Conscious Earth Founder Godi Godar was recently in DRC as new wells were being created with the Village Drill. We partnered with Godi four years ago with this drill in the Lac Tumba area of the DRC, which is still in operation. This one drill has created 17 wells, bringing clean water to thousands in these communities. In addition, because of the impact of clean water in the community, they qualified for a grant which saved 1 million acres of surrounding rainforest.

Unexpected Impact

When the Village Drill was installed in his village, this boy was inspired and built his own engineering inventions. Hopefully anytime we do good, there’s a ripple effect that grows far beyond what we could’ve hoped. Dreaming about the future is often a privilege for those who have the security of food, home and health. But when the key of basic needs is unlocked, the wide open world awaits.
